Star of MTV’s “The Buried Life” Ben Nemtin Shines a Light on the Magic of Audacity
Ben Nemtin is a co-founder and member of The Buried Life, a group of four friends that have set out to do everything on their bucket list and help others do the same. They have a hit show on MTV called “The Buried Life”, and a New York Times bestseller, What Do You Want to Do Before You Die? Ben is also the president and producer of Four Peaks Media Group and a TEDx speaker.
Ben’s journey began 10 years ago, when he fell into depression. “My depression started slowly, where I just wasn’t feeling as energetic or like myself, and it kind of got worse and worse, to the point where I was crippled by it. I couldn’t go outside, hang out with friends, do the things that I normally did.” With the help of friends and family, Ben was able to overcome his depression. “When I started feeling better, it didn’t happen overnight. It was little steps of me sort of feeling my self-worth. I got a job. I started meeting new people, people that were kind of inspiring people that I wanted to be around, that I got energy from.”
In an attempt to feel more alive, he made a list of ‘100 things to do before you die’ with his three friends, and they set out on a two-week road trip with a camera and a borrowed RV to complete their bucket list. For each item accomplished, they also helped a stranger cross something off their own list.
Ben’s bucket list quest has taken him to the White House to play basketball with President Barack Obama, to doing a sketch with Will Ferrell, and even to Oprah Winfrey’s couch. From raising over $400,000 for charity to escaping a deserted island, Nemtin’s quest has inspired millions to chase their dreams.
Ben is committed to spreading the message of radical possibility and leaving people not only inspired but also equipped to tackle seemingly insurmountable boundaries.
He believes when it comes to creating a bucket list, it’s important to think big. “When you think about audacious goals, you separate yourself from the crowd. You’re going after something that most people aren’t going after; therefore, there’s just less competition, so you’re also drawing people towards you that you want that are inspired by that big idea. It’s a great gravitational force, the big audacious goal.”
